The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has officially arrested Hendry Lie, a key suspect in the corruption case involving PT Timah’s tin trading activities. Hendry was apprehended on Monday, November 18, 2024, upon his arrival at Terminal 2F of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) around 10:30 PM Western Indonesia Time, after a flight from Singapore with Batik Air.

“The arrest occurred at Soekarno-Hatta Airport as Hendry Lie arrived from Singapore,” stated Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Abdul Qohar, during a press conference on the same day. Hendry was then transported to the Attorney General’s Office, arriving at Kartika Building around 11:10 PM. He underwent questioning for about an hour, concluding at approximately 12:15 AM.

Following his interrogation, Hendry was transferred to the Salemba Detention Center for further detention, where he will remain for the next 20 days. Qohar confirmed the detention at the South Jakarta State Prosecution Office Branch.

Hendry’s return to Indonesia was reportedly to renew his expired passport. However, Qohar emphasized that his return was discreet, aimed at evading law enforcement officials. “Our investigators monitored his movement closely, including a representative of the prosecution in Singapore and a SIRI team from Indonesia,” Qohar explained.

Hendry had been in Singapore since March 25, 2024, about a month after his initial examination as a witness in the case. At that time, he claimed to have sought medical treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital after missing multiple scheduled hearings with investigators. According to Qohar, Singapore immigration records confirm his stay there since March.

Hendry Lie is one of 22 suspects accused in the massive corruption scandal involving PT Timah. The AGO alleges that Hendry received illegal funds totaling IDR 1 trillion from a collaboration between his company, PT Tinindo Internusa, and PT Timah Tbk. Other suspects, including PT Timah executives and Harvey Moeis, have also been detained in connection with the case.
