In a major crackdown on recruitment fraud, the State Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested five individuals from Balangir district for allegedly submitting forged educational certificates to secure positions in the postal department in 2023.

The accused have been identified as Kulamani Rana (24), Ajaudin Kumbhar (28), Rajat Kumar Naik (32), Sudhir Bhue (27), and Tophan Bag (45). According to IGP (Crime Branch) Sarthak Sarangi, the group submitted fake matriculation certificates to obtain Grameen Dak Sevak (GDS) jobs.

The case originated from a complaint filed by the Balangir postal division in March 2023, which prompted the local police to begin an inquiry. The State Crime Branch later took over the investigation.

This development follows a previous case where 20 individuals, including the main accused Abhijeet Kumar Bhakat, were arrested for similar offenses involving forged educational documents.

The authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on recruitment fraud and ensuring transparency in public sector hiring processes.
