Antonio Brown Wanted on Attempted Murder Charge After Miami Celebrity Boxing Event
MIAMI, Fla. — Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, 36, is now facing an attempted murder charge with a firearm following a violent altercation at a celebrity boxing event in Miami on May 16, 2025, according to a warrant obtained by The Washington Post.
Miami-Dade police reportedly obtained video evidence showing Brown punching a man before seizing a firearm from a security officer and firing two shots at the alleged victim. The victim told investigators he was shot twice, with one bullet grazing his neck, and sought hospital treatment on May 21.
Brown was detained temporarily by police on the night of the incident but was released without arrest. In a social media statement, Brown claimed he was assaulted by multiple individuals trying to steal his jewelry and emphasized that he went home that night.
“Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me,” Brown wrote. “I was not arrested. I will be talking to my legal counsel and attorneys on pressing charges on the individuals that jumped me.”
The arrest warrant requests Brown post a $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest pending further legal proceedings.
Brown, a sixth-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010, was one of the NFL’s most dominant wide receivers of the 2010s, earning five All-Pro selections and seven Pro Bowls. He played for multiple teams, including a brief stint with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won Super Bowl LV.
