CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) — Jennifer Mullen, 45, the Town Supervisor of Corning, has been arrested on charges related to unemployment fraud, according to a June 4th announcement by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.

Mullen faces multiple charges, including Grand Larceny, Falsifying Business Records, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing. Authorities allege that she improperly received more than $1,000 in unemployment benefits.

Sheriff Jim Allard clarified that the charges are unrelated to Mullen’s official role with the town government.

In a statement to WENY News, Mullen addressed the situation:

“Because there is a serious criminal matter pending I am limited to what I can say and it would be wholly inappropriate to address the substance of the allegations. That said I want to be as clear as possible, as a person of integrity, I can assure you in the community that accepting accountability for mistakes personal and professional [are] consistent with my values.”

She emphasized that this is a personal legal matter and expressed hope that it won’t affect the upcoming election.

Mullen was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to return to Corning Town Court at a later date.
