Houston Texans Safety Jimmie Ward Arrested on Family Violence Assault Charge
MAGNOLIA, Texas — Jimmie Ward, 33, safety for the Houston Texans, was arrested Thursday morning at his home in Magnolia on a third-degree felony charge of family violence assault, according to Montgomery County authorities.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to an early morning call shortly after 4:30 a.m. at a Magnolia subdivision residence. Ward’s fiancee alleged that he assaulted, strangled, and threatened her. She has filed for an emergency protective order.
Ward posted bail set at $30,000 later that day, Montgomery County Jail records show.
The Texans and the NFL are aware of the arrest. An NFL spokesperson told ABC News, “We have no further comment at this time.” Omar Majzoub, senior director of communications for the Texans, confirmed the team is gathering information but declined further comment.
Ward has played two seasons with the Texans, appearing in 20 games and recording three interceptions and one touchdown. He ended the 2024 season on injured reserve after foot surgery following a December 21 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 2023 season also saw Ward on injured reserve due to hip and hamstring injuries.
Ward signed a two-year, $13 million contract with Houston in March 2023, with $8.5 million guaranteed and a $4 million signing bonus. The Texans extended his contract in August 2024 for an additional year worth $10.5 million, including $8.75 million guaranteed.
Ward is set to become a free agent in 2026.
ABC News reached out to Ward’s agent, who declined to comment on the arrest.
