The Malad police have arrested Taran Singh for allegedly cheating Mitesh Jain, a jeweller, of Rs 26.71 lakh with the promise of delivering a car earlier than expected.
Mitesh Jain, aged 34, had booked an Innova Hycross in June 2023, only to be told the waiting period was about two years. Looking for a quicker delivery, Jain sought advice from a friend, who shared the contact of Taran Singh, claiming Singh had previously helped people secure cars faster through his network.
Singh, boasting about his connections with car dealers across India, assured Jain that if any bookings were canceled, he could have a car delivered in three to four months. He further convinced Jain that, with an advance payment, the delivery could be arranged within a month.
Trusting Singh’s assurances, Jain transferred Rs 14.71 lakh from his company account to Singh’s IndusInd Bank account. However, when Jain followed up after a month, Singh delayed the process, citing pending deliveries, raising suspicions.
Following the complaint filed by Jain, the Malad police arrested Taran Singh for fraud and are continuing their investigation.
