A youth was arrested on Sunday evening in Jabalpur while attempting to pass counterfeit Rs 500 notes at a betel shop in the Lasudia area. Police suspect that the accused’s method was inspired by the crime-thriller web series Farzi, as his modus operandi closely resembled scenes from the show.
The accused, identified as Shubham Razak, a BCom graduate and telecaller in a private company, was caught after the low paper quality of the fake currency raised suspicion. During frisking, police seized 46 counterfeit Rs 500 notes from his possession.
ACP Aditya Patle stated that Razak had previously used counterfeit currency but was caught this time due to the substandard quality of the notes. During interrogation, he claimed to have procured the fake notes from one Mahipal alias Mohit Beda from Jodhpur, paying half the price of genuine notes.
Police are currently verifying his call detail records (CDR) and bank transactions to substantiate his claims. A background check is ongoing to determine any links with criminal groups or involvement in similar offences.
A case has been registered against the accused under sections 179 and 180 of the BNS Act. Section 179 deals with using forged or counterfeit currency as genuine, while Section 180 addresses possession of such forged or counterfeit currency.
