IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) — A mother and son are facing serious charges after allegedly exploiting a woman with Alzheimer’s and stealing over $500,000 from her.

According to the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau, Keelan France, 26, and his mother Nicole Linderholm, 49, both of Iowa City, have been charged with financial exploitation of an older individual.

The victim was France’s grandmother and Linderholm’s mother. France, who held Power of Attorney, was responsible for caring for the woman. Prosecutors in Johnson County allege that he and Linderholm used that authority to divert hundreds of thousands of dollars from the victim’s accounts into their own.

Court documents confirm that the financial exploitation totaled over half a million dollars.

If convicted, both France and Linderholm face up to 25 years in prison.
