Khalif Kairo, a well-known Kenyan businessman and second-hand car dealer, was arrested on January 11, 2024, after a client discovered that the vehicle he sold had an outstanding loan. The car in question, a 2014 Volvo V40, was repossessed by auctioneers after the buyer learned that it was still encumbered with debt, contrary to Kairo’s assurances.
The controversy began when the buyer, who had purchased the vehicle on October 19, 2024, was promised a smooth logbook transfer. However, after the buyer attempted to finalize the paperwork, it became clear that the car was tied to an unpaid loan. Despite multiple promises from Kairo and his team that the matter would be resolved, the situation worsened in December 2024 when auctioneers arrived at the buyer’s workplace to repossess the car.
Kairo’s assurances that the debt had been cleared were contradicted by the buyer’s experience, leading to growing frustration and ultimately a police report being filed. The buyer had hoped for a resolution by December 20, but after communication ceased, the case escalated to an arrest.
Kairo’s legal troubles are not limited to this case. In December 2024, he was detained by police at Kasarani Police Station for another fraudulent case involving high-end cars. Kairo is accused of pocketing millions from a client who had paid for expensive cars that were never delivered. Other victims have since come forward, prompting the authorities to open an investigation.
Despite his legal issues, Kairo has continued to portray himself as a successful entrepreneur. On social media, he brushed off the accusations, claiming that facing litigation is part of the journey for any successful businessperson. “Every big entrepreneur must face litigation or money problems, especially when God is taking you to higher levels,” Kairo wrote in response to the allegations.
Kairo is set to appear in court on Monday, as his ongoing legal troubles continue to cast a shadow over his ventures. In addition to his car dealership, Kai and Karo, Kairo is also involved in aviation. In 2023, he launched Jetman Global, a company focused on aircraft leasing, sales, and consultancy services. Despite the challenges, Kairo remains optimistic about his future business ventures, including expanding his operations across Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. His long-term goal is to democratize aircraft charters and establish his own airline, even as he navigates his current legal battles.
