RIVERWOODS, Ill. (FOX 56) — A former employee of a Riverwoods pizza restaurant has been arrested for stealing over $5,000 through a payroll check alteration scheme.
Daniel Nersesov, 21, of Spring Grove, was charged with felony theft and two counts of forgery. The charges stem from an investigation into a check forgery operation that began last June, according to Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno.
Nersesov, who previously worked at Sarpino’s restaurant on Milwaukee Avenue, allegedly reproduced and altered payroll checks, making them payable to himself. He then electronically deposited the checks into his own bank account and that of a family member, without the authorization of the business.
The scheme involved seven counterfeit checks, resulting in a total theft of $5,419.29. Nersesov was located in Fox Lake by a Riverwoods police detective around 12:35 a.m. on December 14 and was arrested.
After being processed at the Riverwoods Police Department, Nersesov was released, as the charges were non-detainable. He is scheduled to appear in court in Waukegan on December 30.
