SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Peyton Leclaire, 20, was arrested for the third time in just over a year on robbery charges after a violent incident outside Sunshine Foods in downtown Sioux Falls on Sunday morning, April 6, 2025. Police say Leclaire approached a woman as she was placing groceries into her car, began physically assaulting her, and threatened to shoot her. He then stole her vehicle.
A police spokesperson, Sam Clemens, confirmed that officers found and pursued the stolen vehicle, leading to Leclaire’s arrest. Although Leclaire was carrying a gun during the robbery, it was not recovered at the time of his arrest. Leclaire faces multiple charges including:
First-degree robbery
Aggravated assault
Grand theft
Resisting arrest
Driving while intoxicated
Simple assault
Obstructing law enforcement
Driving without a license
Possession or consumption of alcohol under the age of 21
This arrest marks the third robbery arrest for Leclaire in a little over a year. Previously, he was arrested for a March 2024 incident in which he strangled a clerk and stole alcohol from a Sioux Falls convenience store. After a plea deal, he served a concurrent sentence and had several charges dropped. Later, in July 2024, Leclaire was arrested for robbing a Casey’s gas station, stealing cigarettes, and pushing an employee. He was again arrested for robbery and several other charges, but many were dropped after another plea deal.
Clemens urges the public to remain vigilant, advising that if threatened with a weapon, it’s safer to comply with the demands to avoid injury or worse.
