Tanya Nasir, a mother of two, has been exposed as a fraudster who deceived her employers and colleagues regarding her nursing qualifications. After becoming the ward manager at the neonatal unit of Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend in September 2019, her fabricated credentials raised suspicions just four months into her role.
An investigation was launched after discrepancies in her nursing registration were discovered, revealing that she had qualified four years later than claimed. Suspended from her position, Nasir resigned just two days before a scheduled disciplinary hearing.
To secure her job, Nasir faked a reference using an NHS email account belonging to Maureen Westphal, a nurse from Hillingdon Hospital. Despite claiming that Westphal was her line manager, she had actually left her position ten months prior to the reference being created.
When questioned by NHS Counter Fraud Investigators, Westphal denied writing the reference. Hillingdon Hospital confirmed that no concerns about Nasir’s qualifications had been raised during the recruitment process, which included thorough verification.
Nasir’s fraudulent actions put vulnerable patients at risk, and she has been granted bail pending sentencing on September 24. Hillingdon Hospital remains committed to ensuring the highest standards of patient care and is reviewing its recruitment procedures to prevent such incidents in the future.
