by Ananya Mehta

The cyber police arrested Satish Kumar, a 24-year-old Botany graduate from Nawada district, Bihar, for duping a Bhubaneswar businessman of Rs 20 lakh. Kumar allegedly created a fraudulent website mimicking a reputed oil company to trap victims seeking to establish petrol pumps.

The businessman discovered the fake site during a Google search and submitted an online application. Soon after, he received calls demanding payments for various processing fees. Between January 29 and April 25, the victim transferred Rs 20 lakh through UPI and cheques to multiple accounts controlled by the accused.

The fraud was uncovered when the victim visited the genuine oil company’s Bhubaneswar office after receiving no response from the scammers. Investigations revealed that Kumar operated several mule accounts to siphon funds from cyber fraud victims, said DCP Jagmohan Meena.

The police continue to investigate for further leads.
