A man identified as Shane Andrew Ingle was arrested in Conway, Arkansas, on Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing a school bus. The incident took place while Ingle was fleeing from authorities, and the bus was discovered abandoned with the door open. The bus, which had markings indicating it was from Fairfax, left bystanders confused as there is no Fairfax County in Arkansas.
Kelly French, a local resident, was driving past the scene when he saw a large police presence surrounding the school bus. “As I drove by, what I saw was like eight police cars, and a bus with the door open pulled over on the side of the road,” French recalled. Fortunately, there were no children on the bus, and police clarified that the vehicle had not been stolen from school grounds.
The bus was recovered from an area near Covington Park Drive, where a company called Bus Upfitters, a school bus service, is located in Conway. French, who witnessed the scene, noted that the person inside the bus appeared to be in an unusual state, and it was unclear what condition the driver was in at the time.
Conway Police later confirmed that Shane Ingle, a resident of Russellville, was arrested and charged with several offenses. These charges included theft of property, fleeing from police, breaking and entering, driving on a suspended license, and criminal mischief. Ingle’s arrest followed a brief investigation, and authorities are continuing their inquiries into the incident.
The police department’s swift action prevented any further escalation, and the school bus was returned without any damage.
