MIAMI, Fla. — Roberto Montalvo Jr., the former president of the Ro Mont South Condominium homeowners association, was arrested Wednesday on charges of grand theft after he allegedly stole more than $15,000 from the association’s funds.
Montalvo, 64, reportedly used the stolen money for personal expenses. According to arrest documents, Montalvo hired a plumber working for the association to perform a plumbing job at his sister’s apartment. The work cost $3,150, which Montalvo paid using association funds meant for board-related expenses.
Montalvo also allegedly instructed the plumber to cash the association’s checks totaling $12,400 and return the cash to him.
The theft was discovered when the new president of the condo association reported the incident to authorities. Montalvo is facing conspiracy to commit grand theft charges and was expected to appear in bail court Wednesday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be forthcoming.
