Peterborough Man Jailed After Two Separate Arrests for Drugs and Weapons
Ajmal Saqikel, 28, has been sentenced to 38 weeks in prison after being found with machetes, drugs, and pepper spray on two separate occasions in Peterborough. Saqikel’s first arrest occurred on 4 December of last year after a crash on the A15 in Werrington. Witnesses saw him throw a machete into nearby bushes before re-entering his van. Inside the van, officers discovered £266.50 in cash and five bags of cannabis. A further 19 bags of cannabis were found during a subsequent search of his home on Dogsthorpe Road.
Released on bail, Saqikel was arrested again on 17 March this year in Millfield, Peterborough. When approached by police on the corner of Lincoln Road and Searjeant Street, he attempted to hide something by throwing his coat over a wall. The officers stopped and searched him, finding £380 in cash, a can of pepper spray, five small bags of cannabis, and a machete hidden in the coat.
Saqikel admitted to being concerned in the supply of cannabis, possessing a bladed article in a public place, and possession of a prohibited weapon. In addition to his prison sentence, he was ordered to forfeit £646.50 in cash, which will be donated to Cambridge Women’s Aid.
PC Mark Mankiwskyj, who made the latest arrest, emphasized the ongoing efforts to tackle drug dealing in the area, highlighting the dangerous impact such crimes have on communities. He encouraged the public to report any concerns about weapons or drug dealing.
