In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police have busted a family-run car theft gang responsible for stealing over two dozen vehicles across Delhi-NCR in recent months. The accused, all related, include the kingpin Raman, his son Sagar, and son-in-law Neeraj, police announced on Saturday.
According to DCP Dwarka Ankit Singh, the gang followed a unique pattern — targeting cars parked near parks and gyms before dawn. Their primary targets were Maruti Brezza models and two other commonly parked vehicle types.
“The thieves were extremely quick — stealing cars in just 5 to 7 minutes. They often struck in the early hours when surveillance is minimal,” said DCP Singh.
A week-long operation led by the Dwarka Crime Team involved scanning footage from over 200 CCTV cameras installed near recent crime scenes. Patterns in timing, vehicle type, and location pointed toward an organized ring.
The gang worked swiftly and with precision.
They preferred cars parked in less guarded areas, especially near parks and gyms.
They used techniques that allowed them to break into and start cars in seconds, with each theft completed in under 7 minutes.
All three arrested — Raman (the mastermind), his son Sagar, and son-in-law Neeraj — operated in sync. Police say the family treated the theft operation like a business, conducting reconnaissance, executing thefts, and disposing of stolen vehicles through black-market networks.
Further investigation is underway to determine the number of cars stolen, how they were disposed of or resold, and whether other family members or associates were involved.
