In a shocking development, Karimganj police arrested Sumeru Nath, a senior education official, for orchestrating a large-scale drug trafficking operation in the district. Nath, the Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Program, was apprehended on November 6 following a significant drug seizure in Badarpur.

The operation, led by Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das, also led to the arrest of four other individuals involved in the trafficking racket. During interrogation, Nath’s role as the mastermind behind the illicit drug trade was uncovered, raising concerns about the troubling intersection of organized crime and education in the region.

Reports suggest Nath had been involved in trafficking drugs for several years, highlighting the deep-rooted nature of the operation. His arrest has sent shockwaves through the local community, calling attention to the urgent need for enhanced monitoring and vigilance across various sectors.

In a related effort, on November 22, 2024, Dhubri police arrested Saiful Islam, a repeat offender, near Samshan Mandir in Folimari. Islam, a resident of Ghoramara, was caught with 60 grams of suspected brown sugar concealed in a soap case. Islam, with a history of drug crimes, is now the prime suspect in an ongoing investigation into deeper drug trafficking networks.

These arrests highlight the unwavering commitment of local law enforcement in fighting drug-related crime and ensuring the safety of the community.
