DHAKA, Bangladesh — Kamal Khan, 46, also known as Shah Kamal Khan, was arrested by the Demra Police on Saturday for fraud and extortion. Khan allegedly posed as a former colleague of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and attempted to extort a bribe from a police officer.

According to DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman, the incident took place when Police Inspector GM Musa Kalimullah, stationed in the Traffic Demra Zone, received a call from Kamal on Thursday afternoon. Kamal introduced himself as a journalist and political figure who had worked with Yunus, demanding a bribe of Tk10,000.

Kamal reportedly threatened to file complaints against Inspector Kalimullah with senior officials, including the IGP Complaint Cell and the home adviser, unless the money was paid. However, upon consulting his colleagues, the inspector learned that Kamal had made similar extortion attempts on other police officers in the past.

With the assistance of the Demra Traffic Zone Police, Kamal was lured to the Matuail flyover area on Saturday, where he was arrested. Following his capture, Inspector Kalimullah filed a fraud and extortion case against Kamal at the Demra Police Station.

During preliminary questioning, Kamal confessed to his crimes, and the investigation continues. Authorities are looking into whether there are other victims of Kamal’s fraudulent activities.
