KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A married couple, believed to be involved in a bank robbery from late January, were arrested Monday in Kansas City, Kansas.
Willie Sampson, 50, and his wife Kimberly Thomas-Sampson, 50, were taken into custody at separate locations. According to Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD), Willie was arrested after a two-hour standoff at his home near N. 37th Street and Wood Avenue. After barricading himself inside, he eventually surrendered and was arrested without incident.
Earlier in the day, Kimberly was taken into custody without incident at her job.
The couple faces multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated non-residential burglary, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and theft. These charges stem from the January 31 bank robbery at U.S. Bank located at 10995 Parallel Parkway, near the Legends in Kansas City, Kansas.
Police initially responded to a false report of an armed individual at a local elementary school to divert police resources away from the bank. Law enforcement officials later linked the Sampsons to the robbery.
Both Willie and Kimberly are currently being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on $250,000 bonds. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and the KCKPD Robbery Unit continues to look into the case.
