TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Two men were arrested in connection with multiple offenses, including assault and drug crimes, following a standoff in southwest Topeka on Thursday afternoon.
The incident began around noon on S.W. Candletree Drive when police received reports of armed individuals in the area. Upon arriving, officers learned that two men were holed up inside a nearby apartment. Police attempted to arrest them, but the suspects refused to comply.
In response, the Topeka Police Department’s Response Team and Crisis Negotiators were deployed to the scene. After several hours of negotiations, the men were taken into custody around 4 p.m. without further incident.
Jay U. Maxville, 28, and Noah K. Johnson, 26, both of Topeka, were booked into the Shawnee County Jail. Maxville faces charges including aggravated assault, aggravated endangering a child, interference with law enforcement, possession of marijuana, possession of narcotics, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Johnson faces similar charges, including aggravated assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of cocaine.
