PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — A former Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) employee, Robert Thibodeau, was sentenced on Tuesday for making threats against his co-workers. Thibodeau, 53, received a prison sentence of eight years, along with five years of post-release supervision, after pleading guilty to a series of weapon and ammunition-related charges in August.
Thibodeau had initially pleaded not guilty to 11 charges, but changed his plea to guilty on all counts. In addition to his prison term, Thibodeau will be required to pay various fines and fees linked to the offenses.
The incident leading to his arrest occurred in February when Thibodeau was stopped by police just a mile away from CVPH. His brother had alerted authorities to a disturbing conversation between them, in which Thibodeau mentioned returning to his former workplace to harm individuals.
At the time of his arrest, officers found a loaded 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun in his vehicle, along with two 10-round magazines and additional ammunition. Thibodeau had been fired from CVPH shortly before the threatening conversation with his brother took place.
