by Ananya Mehta

A migrant worker, who had been evading arrest for two years following his escape from police custody in a theft case in Meghalaya, was finally arrested by police in Perumbavoor, Kerala.

The accused, Ranjan Boro Gain (28), a native of Dibrugarh, Assam, was apprehended by a special investigation team led by Perumbavoor ASP Shakti Singh Arya. He had originally been arrested in connection with a theft case filed at the Nongpoh police station in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district in 2020, from where he had escaped.

Acting on a tip-off received by District Police Chief Vaibhav Saxena, officers tracked Gain to a plywood company in the Vallam area of Perumbavoor, where he had been working under a false identity.

The Ernakulam rural police successfully detained Gain and later handed him over to the Meghalaya Police for further legal proceedings.
