The VSLA group, which is part of the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM) program, had gathered for a meeting when local authorities received a tip-off about a planned robbery.

According to reports, a group of youths armed with machetes, knives, and other sharp objects were preparing to rob the VSLA members. Swift action by police and Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) officers, who responded around 10 p.m., prevented the crime.

One suspect, Francis Liko, was arrested at the scene carrying a machete and a knife. However, two other suspects, Mario Longora and Lokwangiro, managed to escape and remain at large. Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed that a manhunt is underway to capture the fugitives, with local police continuing their search.

Longole credited the community for its role in preventing the robbery. “The quick response of local informants was crucial in disrupting this crime,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in maintaining safety and security.

Eyewitness Peter Lokol, a local resident, described the tense moments leading up to the intervention: “When we saw the suspects with weapons, we immediately alerted the police, which helped them respond quickly.”

As investigations continue, residents of Loteede Village have vowed to stay vigilant, ensuring that any information related to the remaining suspects is reported promptly.
