Nagpur’s Crime Branch Unit 2 made a significant breakthrough on October 25, 2024, by arresting two individuals, Akash Jaygopal Khandekar and Sharad Ramuji Bhoyar, both 24 years old and residents of Badegaon, for possessing marijuana. The arrests were made during a well-coordinated raid near the Central Transport Department Office in Gittikhadan, following a tip-off about a planned marijuana sale.
At around 9:30 PM, police officers intercepted the suspects and conducted a search of their two-wheeler, uncovering 1.911 kg of marijuana valued at approximately Rs39,000. Further questioning revealed that the suspects had sourced the marijuana from a wanted dealer, Ronny Rajput of Kisinga Yodisada, and had already sold a portion to an individual identified as Aslam alias Bhuru Khan Dawood Khan, a resident of Bhosale Nagar, Nagpur.
In addition to the marijuana, police seized two mobile phones and the suspects’ vehicle, which collectively amounted to assets worth Rs1,40,000. A case has been registered against the suspects under sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii), and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Joint Commissioner Nisar Tamboli, and Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Patil, with PI Shubhangi Deshmukh and Crime Branch Unit 2 officers leading the investigation. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the drug network.
