HOLTON, Kansas – A man and a woman were arrested early Thursday morning in Jackson County following a traffic stop that led to multiple charges.
At approximately 3 a.m. on Thursday, Jackson County sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop on US-75 highway near 214th Road, about a mile south of Holton.
Michael Owen Bennett, 46, of Topeka, was arrested after the deputies discovered he was driving with a suspended license. A probable-cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of illegal substances and a firearm.
Elaine Elizabeth Anne Moore, 27, of Horton, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was found to have an outstanding felony warrant from Brown County. In addition, Moore allegedly had a 9 mm Glock pistol tucked into her waistband, sheriff’s officials stated.
Further investigation revealed heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Both Bennett and Moore were taken into custody and booked into the Jackson County Jail.
Bennett faces charges including possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended, and no insurance.
Moore is facing several charges, including possession of heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, criminal use of weapons, and the outstanding felony warrant from Brown County.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details are expected to be released later.
