Michael Anthony McCoy, 60, of Jonesboro, appeared in court on Monday for his probable cause hearing after being arrested on charges related to a recent vehicle break-in. McCoy faces multiple charges, including Breaking or Entering a Vehicle (a Class D felony), misdemeanor theft, and misdemeanor possession. Judge David Boling set bail at $25,000 cash or surety.
The arrest followed an investigation that began on February 21 when Jonesboro Police Department (JPD) officers responded to a report of a vehicle break-in on Parker Road. The victim discovered that a work tool bag and tablet had been stolen from his vehicle. Upon further inspection, officers found foot tracks in the snow leading toward a nearby property, Hijinx.
Security footage from Hijinx showed a male walking onto the property the previous night, and a white minivan was seen picking him up. On February 23, the complainant contacted police again after the stolen tablet was traced to an address on Allis Street. While waiting for a search warrant, officers observed a white van leaving the address, with the same jacket worn by the suspect visible in the vehicle.
Following a traffic stop, McCoy was unable to provide proof of insurance, and officers discovered marijuana in a pack of cigarettes. Additionally, a tool bag belonging to another victim of a separate break-in was found, along with tools identified as stolen in the current case.
Police later executed a search warrant at the Allis Street address and recovered the stolen tablet, linking McCoy to the crime.
McCoy’s next court appearance is pending as the investigation continues.
