Matthew Muller Charged in Two 2009 Home Invasion Sexual Assaults

Muller, already convicted in "Gone Girl" kidnapping, faces new charges

Matthew Muller, the man responsible for the infamous 2015 “Gone Girl” kidnapping, now faces charges for two separate sexual assaults that occurred 15 years ago. Muller, aged 47, is accused of committing home invasion sexual assaults in 2009, one in Mountain View and the other in Palo Alto, California.

In September 2009, Muller allegedly broke into a woman’s home in Mountain View, tied her up, and forced her to drink medications. Prosecutors claim he threatened to sexually assault her but was convinced to stop. The following month, Muller allegedly attacked another woman in Palo Alto, forcing her to consume Nyquil and attempting to assault her. She too persuaded him to cease his actions.

Muller has been charged with two felony counts of sexual assault during home invasions, which could lead to life imprisonment. He is currently serving a 40-year sentence for the 2015 kidnapping of Denise Huskins.

Prosecutors discovered new evidence linking Muller to the 2009 crimes after DNA found on binding straps matched his. The discovery follows a recent lead that further solidifies his involvement in these unsolved cases.

Muller, a disbarred attorney, had previously pleaded guilty to the kidnapping of Denise Huskins, a case that sparked national attention due to its connection to the book and movie Gone Girl. Huskins was abducted in 2015, with her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn, initially being treated as a suspect. She was later found unharmed, and the case turned out to be linked to Muller, who had also stolen items from Quinn.

The new charges bring closure to long-unsolved crimes and add to Muller’s growing list of offenses, confirming his violent crime spree across California.
