The Pillukhera Police on Wednesday apprehended Rakesh, alias Rikkhi, from Mohali, Punjab, for allegedly deceiving a youth by promising to facilitate his immigration to Canada. The accused is believed to have tricked Bhagwan Dass, a resident of Kheri Taloda village in Jind district, into paying a total of Rs 6.8 lakh.
According to the complaint lodged by Bhagwan Dass on August 6 of the previous year, Rikkhi convinced him to pay a registration fee of Rs 30,560 and a security deposit of Rs 6.5 lakh to the Rudraksh Group Overseas Solutions, a company located in Mohali. Dass was assured that his immigration process to Canada would be taken care of by the company, with a contract agreement specifying that the security deposit would be refunded if the process was not completed.
However, during the police investigation, it was revealed that Rikkhi made no genuine attempts to send Dass to Canada. The investigation also uncovered that the company failed to fulfill its commitments, and no steps were taken to process Dass’s immigration as promised.
Rakesh alias Rikkhi was arrested following the inquiry and has been remanded to police custody for two days. The case remains under further investigation.
