The CIA-1 unit of Kurukshetra Police has arrested four individuals involved in separate theft and loot cases across the district. The accused were engaged in stealing copper wires from tubewells and committing robberies on highways.
Two of the arrested individuals, identified as Ravi and Rakesh, residents of Kurukshetra, were involved in stealing copper wire from electric motors of tubewells. These two individuals have been implicated in over 140 cases of copper wire theft in Kurukshetra and Karnal districts. The arrest came after a woman from Dhurala village lodged a complaint at the Jhansa Police Station about her tubewell wire being stolen on September 25 of last year. Following initial investigations by the Jhansa police, the case was transferred to the CIA-1 unit, which arrested the accused on January 5. During questioning, Ravi and Rakesh admitted to their involvement in 97 thefts in Kurukshetra and 45 in Karnal.
In another operation, the CIA-1 unit arrested Kamaldeep and Deepak, both residents of Ambala, for highway robberies. Kamaldeep, a history sheeter with nearly seven robbery and dacoity cases against him, and Deepak were involved in multiple highway loot incidents. One of the notable cases involved a robbery at knife-point on December 14, where they stole mobile phones, a purse, documents, and Rs13,000 from two truck drivers in Shahabad. The thieves used one of the driver’s ATM cards to withdraw Rs1 lakh and purchase a mobile phone. Their criminal activities continued in December, with incidents involving a gas cylinder delivery man and a loot at an SBI Sewa Kendra in Patiala. Kamaldeep and Deepak were arrested on January 5, and further investigation is ongoing to recover the stolen loot and valuables.
The arrests of these four men by the CIA-1 unit are part of an ongoing effort to combat theft and highway crimes in the region.
