by Amelia Crawford

Kelvin Kleinovas, aged 24, was convicted after he allowed €10,000 of the €50,000 stolen from a parish priest’s bank account to be lodged into his own account. The incident occurred when the priest attempted to pay a connection fee for broadband through his online banking. Kleinovas, from Mayeston Green, St. Margarets Road, Finglas, Dublin 11, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing the proceeds of crime in August 2019.

The case began when the priest was targeted by scammers, who stole nearly €50,000 from his personal account. Kleinovas’s involvement came when he permitted €10,000 of the stolen funds to be deposited into his own account. The court proceedings revealed his connection to the larger scam.
