Urbana, Ill. (WICS) — A man accused of killing two girls in a tragic hit-and-run crash in Urbana has been apprehended after initially providing police with a fake name. The suspect, who gave the name Juan JaHaziel Saenz-Suarez, was later identified as Julio Cucul Bol, a 29-year-old from Guatemala.
The incident occurred when Cucul Bol, driving a red Mitsubishi Outlander, crashed into a Honda Civic at a traffic signal on University Avenue and Coler Avenue. Two girls, Chloe Polzin and Katherine Abraham, tragically lost their lives in the crash, while other passengers in the Civic were injured. Following the incident, the driver fled the scene.
Initial investigations led to Cucul Bol being identified under the alias “Juan JaHaziel Saenz-Suarez,” and it was later determined that he had presented falsified Mexican paperwork. His real identity was discovered when Cucul Bol himself admitted to it, and the Champaign County State’s Attorney was notified of the development.
Cucul Bol now faces several charges, including leaving the scene of a personal injury crash resulting in death (two counts), aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death, and two counts of reckless homicide.
The United States Marshals Service, working in coordination with Urbana Police, tracked Cucul Bol to Milford, Texas, south of Dallas. Authorities found him on an El Expreso bus bound for Matamoros, Mexico, and arrested him. A new arrest warrant was issued by Champaign County after Cucul Bol’s identity was confirmed.
Urbana police continue their investigation into the fatal crash, which left the community devastated by the loss of two young lives.
