Husan Thurston, 32, and Alton Pernell, 28, both of Washington, D.C., were sentenced to two years in prison each for their roles in the September 2024 burglary of a Gucci store in Northwest D.C., the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced today.
The two men pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary charges on November 19, 2024, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
On the night of September 9, 2024, law enforcement officers observed a group of individuals gathering outside the Gucci store on I Street NW, which was closed at the time. Surveillance footage captured Thurston and Pernell as they kicked in the locked doors to gain entry. Once inside, they grabbed several Gucci handbags, with some valued at thousands of dollars.
An officer noticed the burglary in progress and alerted fellow officers. Thurston and Pernell attempted to flee when the officers entered the store, but were intercepted after a brief pursuit. The two men ran to the back of the store, where they were apprehended without further incident.
Both defendants were taken into custody at the scene and were sentenced to two years in prison for their actions.
