KASOA, Ghana — A man identified as Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah has been arrested for impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding unsuspecting individuals in the Kasoa area with fake international travel offers.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed in a statement that Kow-Assifuah was arrested on June 6, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation at Kasoa Crispo City, in the Central Region. At the time of his arrest, he was dressed in a white lab coat with a stethoscope and was reportedly on his way to meet another victim.
Police retrieved several medical items from the suspect, including:
Two stethoscopes
Three intravenous (IV) drips
Five syringes
Two sample bottles
One roll of medical plaster
Six bottles of vaccines
GH¢8,500 in cash
During interrogation, Kow-Assifuah admitted to impersonating a doctor at United Brain Hospital. He also confessed to luring women online into romantic relationships and extorting money from them by offering fake travel opportunities abroad.
He is currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals posing as professionals to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
