HIGH POINT, N.C. —
Police arrested four people early Tuesday morning after an attempted robbery at Ilderton Dodge, a car dealership located at 701 South Main Street in High Point.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 1 a.m. when officers received a call about suspicious activity. Witnesses reported seeing several individuals wearing ski masks and ducking between vehicles on the lot.

When officers arrived, the suspects fled on foot but were quickly captured after a brief chase. Police say evidence showed an attempted vehicle theft, and the suspects’ car was found parked behind the dealership.

Inside the vehicle, investigators discovered a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, a loaded AR-15 pistol, and marijuana.

“This is a great example of quick response and teamwork that likely prevented more crimes from happening,” said Chief Curtis Cheeks III. “Officers acted swiftly, arresting suspects within 15 minutes and seizing two loaded weapons.”

Police identified the suspects and their charges as follows:

Gregory E. Watts, 18: Two counts of firearm by felon, two counts of attempted motor vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit felony, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and resisting an officer.

Ja’kari K. Fleming, 19, of Charlotte: Two counts of attempted motor vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit felony, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, resisting an officer, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Tyler K. Moore, 22, of Charlotte: Two counts of attempted motor vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit felony, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, resisting an officer, and possession of marijuana.

A 17-year-old juvenile also faces charges including two counts of attempted vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit felony, and resisting an officer.

Police praised the quick work of responding officers, noting their actions likely prevented further criminal activity in the area.

The investigation remains ongoing.
