An Eldon man was arrested after a K9 officer detected a stash of psilocybin mushrooms during a traffic stop in Osage Beach, Missouri.
The Osage Beach Police Department stated in a press release that the incident occurred on Friday, February 28, at 10:27 p.m., near Highway 54 and the 42 exit.
Suspicious Driving Leads to Stop
Authorities said the arrest followed an officer noticing two vehicles refusing to pass him despite him driving 10-15 mph under the speed limit. After pulling over to let them pass, the officer then stopped a sedan for failing to use a turn signal.
The driver, identified as Eric C. Opie, appeared nervous, prompting the officer to have K9 Officer Freya inspect the vehicle. Freya alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the car.
Drug Discovery
During a search of the vehicle, officers found:
Three bags of psilocybin mushrooms, each containing approximately 34 grams
A fourth bag with an undisclosed smaller amount
A digital scale with traces of methamphetamine
Charges and Custody
Eric C. Opie was taken into custody and transported to the Camden County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
This case underscores the Osage Beach Police Department’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug activity in the region.
