SIKESTON, MO – Dominique X. Ezell, 34, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, has been arrested after using a quick-change scam to steal hundreds of dollars from multiple Sikeston retail businesses. The incident was reported on January 18, 2025, following a series of suspicious transactions that were caught on security cameras.
Ezell was seen at a Sikeston store on January 17, where he repeatedly asked cashiers to exchange larger bills for smaller ones. In what investigators describe as a confusing tactic, Ezell would engage in conversation with the cashiers and then request his original bills back, which caused confusion and led to the theft.
After a detailed description of the suspect was provided, authorities were notified that Minor Police Department had arrested a man matching Ezell’s description for a similar scam at another retail store within the city.
Ezell now faces charges of stealing in Scott County, with law enforcement confirming that he had defrauded local businesses of hundreds of dollars using this method. The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is calling on any other area businesses that may have experienced similar incidents to reach out to the department.
Ezell is currently in Scott County custody with a $1,000 cash bond. Authorities continue their investigation into the full scope of his crimes.
