Dexter Nduna, the head of mobilisation for Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU PF party, has been arrested on fraud charges after allegedly collecting illegal parking fees from motorists in Chegutu. The politician, who previously served as the Member of Parliament for Chegutu West, appeared in court on Saturday to face the charges, with his lawyer Unite Saizi representing him.
Nduna, the accused, is said to have misrepresented himself as an authorized collector of parking fees on behalf of Chegutu Municipality. According to prosecutor Tafadzwa Vhore, Nduna falsely claimed that his company, Team Chapter, had the legal right to collect fees from local drivers.
Vhore stated that Nduna made misleading representations to motorists, which led them to make payments under false pretenses. The court will decide on Nduna’s bail application on Tuesday, with the politician currently being held in custody.
This case adds to the growing list of scandals surrounding high-profile figures within Zimbabwe’s political sphere. As the investigation continues, many are watching closely to see if this will be another blow to ZANU PF’s already tarnished reputation.
