A 31-year-old man, Deepak Kawale, was arrested for allegedly stealing high-end goods worth Rs 50 lakh from the Khar residence of a top corporate executive. The burglary took place in the highrise on Carter Road, and the accused stands out due to his unique condition—he has metal rods surgically inserted in both of his legs after a fall while fleeing from the police a few months ago.
Despite this physical limitation, Kawale scaled 11 floors of scaffolding to enter the executive’s home, located on the 11th floor of a triplex flat. Once inside, he made off with 27 imported watches, three iPhones, two cameras, and even removed the CCTV system to leave no trace of evidence.
The theft occurred on New Year’s Eve, and the burglary was discovered on January 1 when SA Mukundan, the executive, found his CCTV system non-functional and later realized that valuable items gifted by an industrialist had been stolen. At the time of the burglary, Mukundan and his wife were on the 12th floor.
Kawale evaded detection by slipping behind dust covers around the scaffolding and was not spotted by security guards. He then reached the executive’s office on the 11th floor, collected the stolen goods into two bags, and climbed back down.
