Chirang police have successfully recovered Hindustan Unilever (HUL) products worth approximately Rs 36 lakh, which were mysteriously stolen from a truck traveling from Kolkata to Guwahati. The truck, a 10-wheeler with registration number AS 01 NC 3091, was en route when the consignment was taken.
The stolen goods were traced to the residence of Saumkhou Basumatari in Thaisobari, under the Runikhata area of Chirang district, located near the Indo-Bhutan border. The investigation began after the truck owner filed a complaint with the Runikhata Police about the suspicious theft.
Rupchand Ali (38) and Imamul Haque (32), the truck’s drivers, were arrested during the investigation. Their interrogations led police to the location where the stolen consignment was hidden.
Following this, police raided Saumkhou Basumatari’s house and recovered the full stolen consignment, which included a range of HUL cosmetic and personal care products. Basumatari has been arrested as well.
This incident has raised concerns about organized theft along transit routes in the region, but the swift recovery of the stolen goods has demonstrated the effectiveness of Chirang Police. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the theft network.
