CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A Charleston man, Perry JaQuan Jackson, has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Jackson, 26, was arrested on March 3, 2022, at Northwoods Mall in North Charleston, where he was found to have outstanding state bench warrants related to weapons and drug charges. Upon his arrest, Jackson informed officers that there was a gun under the driver’s seat of his vehicle. A subsequent search revealed two firearms, marijuana, and cash. Additionally, DNA testing confirmed Jackson’s DNA was found on the gun under the seat.
Jackson has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple felony convictions and prior state weapon charges. U.S. District Judge David Norton handed down the seven-year sentence, followed by three years of supervised release. Jackson will serve his sentence without the possibility of parole, as the federal system does not offer parole.
