CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — Charles Dion McDowell, who gained internet fame in 2018 for his viral mugshot due to his unusually large neck, is now facing multiple felony charges after his arrest in Cherokee County. McDowell, nicknamed “Wide Neck,” is charged with furnishing obscene material to minors, after allegedly sending explicit videos of a woman to her underage children and mother.
McDowell, 31, is accused of using both a cell phone and laptop to transmit sexually explicit videos to the victim’s 13-year-old son, 16-year-old daughter, mother, and another unnamed individual. The charges against him include five counts of electronic transmission/post of video or photo of nudity without consent, four counts of electronically furnishing obscene materials to a minor, and harassment via phone calls.
He is currently being held at the Cherokee County Jail without bond.
In 2018, McDowell became an internet sensation after his mugshot, which highlighted his unusually large neck, went viral. He capitalized on his viral fame by adopting the name “Wide Neck” on social media, amassing nearly 1 million followers on Instagram.
Since his viral moment, McDowell has released several rap songs under his “Wide Neck” persona and even collaborated with another rapper known as “Daddy Long Neck” on a song titled “Neckst Big Thing” in 2020.
McDowell has been arrested multiple times in the past. He previously faced drug and speeding charges in Alabama and stalking charges in Florida. His latest arrest marks a troubling chapter in the life of the man who gained viral fame for a mugshot that caught the attention of millions.
