In a shocking incident, a cabbie and an earthmover driver were arrested for stealing over Rs2.2 crore from a real estate businessman in Bengaluru. The accused, identified as Manjunath RS, a cab driver from Chikkalasandra, and his associate Krishnakumar (38), a resident of Naganayakanahalli and driver of an earthmover, were apprehended after a swift police investigation.
The crime occurred on the night of March 28 when Sukumar, a resident of Banashankari III Stage, had just sold four acres and 18 guntas of land in Attiguppe for ₹2.2 crore. After completing the sale and registration in Kanakapura, Sukumar was on his way back to the city with the cash in a Toyota Innova Crysta SUV that he had rented from an online platform. He had hired Manjunath as the driver for the trip.
When they reached Uttarahalli Main Road, Sukumar asked Manjunath to stop near an ATM kiosk. Upon returning, Sukumar found that the SUV—and the Rs2.2 crore—were missing. His attempts to contact Manjunath were unsuccessful as the driver’s phone was switched off. Panicked, Sukumar reported the theft to the police.
On March 30, the police managed to track down the suspects and arrest them. Manjunath had transferred the stolen money to Krishnakumar’s car near KIMS Hospital in the early hours of March 29. After recovering the full Rs2.2 crore, the police successfully put the two men behind bars, solving the high-stakes theft.
