In a successful crackdown on mobile phone theft, the Andheri police arrested three individuals for allegedly stealing mobile phones in the area. The accused have been identified as Prasad Gurav (31), Vivek Upadhyay (27), and Ravi Waghela (34), all residents of Andheri East. A total of 120 stolen mobile phones, valued at Rs. 9.18 lakh, were recovered from their possession.
The incident unfolded on December 31 at around 2:50 PM when a victim was walking along Agarkar Chowk on Sahar Road, Andheri East, talking on his mobile phone. At that moment, a motorcycle approached the victim, and the pillion rider snatched the phone before fleeing the scene. The victim immediately contacted the police and filed a complaint.
The police analyzed CCTV footage from the area and managed to arrest two suspects from Malpada Dongri, Andheri East, on the same day. Further investigation revealed that the stolen mobile phone was handed over to Ravi Waghela. A subsequent search operation led to Waghela’s arrest, and police discovered 120 stolen mobile phones of various brands in his possession.
The investigation also revealed that Waghela’s associates had been involved in stealing mobile phones and delivering them to him. This case follows a prior one filed at Jogeshwari police station, linking the suspects to a wider phone theft operation.
