In a two-and-a-half-year-old case involving a fraudulent job promise, Sadar police in Haryana arrested the main accused, Ajay, from Bugana village on Wednesday. Ajay is accused of deceiving a man out of Rs 20 lakh by falsely claiming he could secure government jobs at the Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) for the victim and his brother.
According to ASI Vikram, the investigating officer, the case stems from a complaint filed on July 11, 2024, against four suspects, including Ajay. The victim reported that he first met Ajay and another accused, Naseeb, in June 2021 at a local flex shop. The duo promised government jobs at HAU, citing strong connections, and later introduced the victim to a third individual, claiming he was a relative of the vice-chancellor of HAU.
The accused demanded an upfront payment of Rs 20 lakh for securing the jobs and promised Rs 15 lakh each for the positions. They also asked the victim to send necessary documents via WhatsApp. After receiving fake joining letters for his brothers, the victim was told that the process was delayed due to department verification procedures.
After 10-11 months of waiting, the victim contacted the HAU administration, only to discover that the joining letters were fake. Realizing he had been duped, the victim reported the fraud to the authorities.
Earlier, Naseeb and Vijay Sura, two other accused in the scam, were arrested. Now in police custody, Ajay faces similar charges in connection with cases registered at the Civil Lines and HTM police stations. Investigations are ongoing to trace any further leads related to the scam.
