In a significant breakthrough, Satgaon police arrested five men believed to be part of a criminal gang involved in a string of burglaries and other illegal activities. The arrests followed a late-night raid on their hideout on Monday, where authorities recovered stolen goods and seized a vehicle allegedly used for committing the crimes.
The suspects, ranging in age from 20 to 38, have been identified as Abu Bakkar Siddiqui (20) from Satgaon, Nitul Ali (26) from Six Mile, Rahul Ahmed (21) from Sarthebari, Najir Ali (22) from Dispur, and Md Sono Ali (38) from Barpeta. They were apprehended after their involvement in the recent burglary of a shop at Baghorbori was discovered. Police also found two printers that had been stolen during the crime.
Siddiqui is believed to have led the gang and even rented a vehicle for the execution of their illegal activities. The rented vehicle was also recovered during the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that Siddiqui had orchestrated at least nine criminal incidents in the past few months, raising concerns among law enforcement about the gang’s activities.
The suspects are currently in legal custody, and the police continue their investigation to uncover additional victims and to dismantle the entire network of criminal activity. Authorities are hopeful this will be a major step forward in their efforts to curb rising crime in Guwahati.
