Jeffery Troxel Arrested After Attacking Texarkana Officer

Troxel charged with assault after violent altercation with Sergeant

by Amelia Crawford

A routine investigation in Texarkana turned violent on Friday night when Sergeant Nick Tirone of the Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD) was attacked by 45-year-old Jeffery Troxel.

The incident began with a call about a disturbance on West Eleventh Street involving a man allegedly pulling a gun during an argument. When Sergeant Tirone arrived, he spotted Troxel, who matched the description of the suspect. Despite Troxel claiming to know nothing about the incident, Sergeant Tirone attempted to frisk him. Instead of complying, Troxel put his hand in his jacket pocket and began pulling out an object.

Tirone quickly grabbed Troxel’s arm to prevent access to a weapon, but Troxel responded by sucker-punching the officer in the face and lunging at him. During the struggle, Troxel repeatedly struck Tirone and tried to grab his gun. The officer was able to regain control and subdue Troxel until Officer Conner Melton arrived to assist.

Sergeant Tirone suffered facial bruising and scrapes but was able to complete his shift. Authorities believe Troxel was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the incident. Troxel, who had an active warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, was arrested and charged with assault on a peace officer. His bond was set at $260,000.
