Two Utica men, Gary Stephens, 53, and Lee Fitzhugh, 57, have been arrested on multiple larceny charges in New Hartford.
On Monday at 6 a.m., employees at Lowe’s on Middle Settlement Road reported that the men were believed to be inside the store. Officers arrived on the scene and found a man waiting outside in a vehicle in the parking lot, who was suspected of dropping Stephens and Fitzhugh off. The individual, who claimed to be a Door Dash driver, aroused suspicion, as it was early morning, and his story didn’t add up, according to the New Hartford Police Department.
Upon leaving the store, Stephens and Fitzhugh found that their ride had left the area.
Stephens was charged with six counts of misdemeanor petit larceny and one count of misdemeanor false personation. Fitzhugh, who had five outstanding bench warrants, was charged with misdemeanor petit larceny.
Both men were taken to the Oneida County Jail to await arraignment.
