ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) – A traffic stop on Sunday led to the arrest of 33-year-old Deris Shaw of Santee, who now faces several drug-related charges. Shaw is charged with trafficking crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, trafficking ecstasy, and a traffic violation.
According to Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, the stop revealed a bookbag containing 440 grams of marijuana, 19.1 grams of crack cocaine, and 111 ecstasy pills. Deputies also found a rifle in Shaw’s vehicle.
Sheriff Ravenell emphasized the risks deputies face daily, noting how a routine traffic stop can escalate into a serious drug bust. Shaw was arrested for driving under suspension and is currently in custody awaiting further proceedings.
