Zubair Derakshshandeh Acquitted in Narcotics Case by Ernakulam Court

court Clears Zubair Derakshshandeh of Charges Under Narcotics Act

by Ananya Mehta

Zubair Derakshshandeh, a foreign national, was acquitted by an Ernakulam trial court on Wednesday in a case involving the alleged seizure of large quantities of narcotic substances from a vessel. The court found Derakshshandeh not guilty of the charges brought under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which had been filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

The Additional District and Sessions Judge 7 concluded that there was insufficient evidence to convict Derakshshandeh. As a result, the court directed that he be set free. Furthermore, the judge ordered the prison authorities to initiate deportation proceedings, as long as Derakshshandeh’s presence was not required for any other legal matters in India.

This ruling marks a significant development in a case that had garnered considerable attention.
